“I need all the heroes I can get” -Luthen Rael

As inconvenience turned to insurrection for the Galactic Empire, no unified resistance initially opposed the Imperial army. As the Rebel Alliance was born, however, its common soldiery would eventually take a unique identity. Loosely organized under the Alliance Army, their decentralized structure allowed these units to operate independently and maximize their effectiveness in various theaters. Made up of
populations from across the galaxy, their actions were critical in ensuring important actions were successful in the Rebellion against the Empire. Join us now as we dive into the guerrilla capabilities of Rebel Troopers for Star WarsTM: Legion.

While less likely to directly oppose the Emperor’s legions in open warfare, Rebel Troopers engage the Imperial army in many famous battles. The Rebel Trooper unit brings a tenacious squad to supply the backbone of any Rebel army. For 40 points per unit, this Corps unit comes with various equipment and useful keywords to bolster your forces. Agile 1 helps protect Rebel Troopers as they fight on any battlefield, giving this unit a Dodge token when they move. Additionally, Nimble returns a Dodge token to the unit after one or more Dodge tokens are spent. While not as well armored as other ground troopers, Surge to Block on their defense rolls also helps this unit survive combat. Rebel heroes like Leia Organa are a welcome sight amongst ranks of massed Rebel Troopers, providing Inspire to help with the unit’s relatively low courage, and using Take Cover to hand out Dodge tokens and help activate Nimble. This ensures that friendly Rebel Troopers will hold key objectives while your forces continue to take the fight to the Empire.

Offensively, Rebel Troopers can enhance the unit’s effectiveness in a fight. Their A280 Blaster Rifles provide a powerful punch at range, but two additional Heavy Weapon upgrades can be added to the squad. The first of these is the MPL-57 Ion Trooper. A solid anti-armor option, the MPL adds two black and one white attack dice, as well as Critical 1, Impact 1, and Ion 1. If a longer-ranged punch is desired,
the DLT-20A can reach out to range 4 and deliver powerful strikes as your forces advance toward their objectives.

Although presented as a heroic insurgency, some within the Rebel High Command regarded Rebel Troopers as a cheap and expendable fighting force. This is unsurprisingly reflected in two personnel upgrades for this unit: a single Rebel Trooper add-on and the Rebel Trooper Squad upgrade. This adds 5 more miniatures to the squad and adds Indomitable and an increased coherency range. Rebel Troopers
can also use this personnel slot to add other useful tools to their commanders, such as Repair Droids for repairing vehicles or a medical aid to keep your forces in the fight.

Finally, a pair of upgrades complete the Rebel Trooper unit expansion. A fearsome addition to any unit, Fragmentation Grenades give a unit Surge to Crit on offense when the weapon is added to an attack pool. Not only does this add a red attack die, it gives the Rebel Troopers ranged attack options access to surge conversion previously absent from their unit card. When Rebel Troopers are defending static
emplacements or caught in a tough spot, Prepared Supplies can be expended to give the unit a Dodge token and further strengthen their defensive capabilities. When spent, this Dodge token can be used again thanks to Nimble, and Command upgrades like Vigilance make sure unspent Dodge tokens are brought forward to protect Rebel Troopers from future attacks.
