M.O.D.O.K.

CP05 M.O.D.O.K.

A.I.M. scientist George Tarleton had the dubious distinction of being chosen as the subject for a procedure which would transform him into a unique, bio-engineered living computer. Unable to use his limbs, Tarleton was confined to a hoverchair, which gives him both mobility and a deadly assortment of conventional weaponry. Since then, M.O.D.O.K. has used his vast intellect and exceptional psychic powers to terrorize the world as the leader of A.I.M. and one of the world’s most dangerous and unpredictable foes.

From Panel To Play: Arnim Zola

CP76 Arnim Zola

Being super intelligent doesn’t necessarily make you a good guy, as is demonstrated by the subject of today’s From Panel to Play. He’s what you get when you stuff 10 pounds of mad science into a 5 pound sack—or, in this case, robotic body. It’s Arnim Zola!

Doctor Arnim Zola was a Swiss scientist and the lead of Project Nietzsche, which attempted to create super soldiers for the purpose of world domination. Zola was an early pioneer in biochemistry and genetic engineering, working from notes left by the Deviants. He was responsible for the suspended animation that allowed the Red Skull to live into the modern age, and replaced his mortal human body with an artificial one, allowing the mad scientist to continue his work to the present day.

On the tabletop, Arnim Zola crams a whole lot of mad science into his robotic body. First off, his Prototype Weapons attack allows Zola to fire off a blast of energy perfectly suited to any foe, thanks to the ability to choose what kind of attack it will be from Physical, Energy, or Mystic. The strange prototype is further enhanced by the Hydra Ingenuity special rule, allowing you to add one of the Bleed, Shock, Slow, or Stun special conditions for every wild in the attack roll! When you’re facing this kind of scientific genius, you can never predict what he’s going to throw at you next!

Zola can also use his ESP box, a device that allows him to control his creations, as a weapon to rattle the weaker minds of those who face him. A Focused ESP Box Blast is a Strength 6 Energy attack that allows Zola to take control of his target, moving them a Short range, which can also Slow a target with a wild result.

The degree of technological innovation in Zola’s machine body gives him even more tools to deal with those who would stop him. When faced with a dangerous foe, Zola can rely on his Experimental Enhancements to produce even more powerful attacks. For 3 Power, Zola adds two dice to his next attack roll, but clearly these enhancements are still in the prototype phase: if the enhanced attack roll produces a failure, Zola takes 1 damage.

It’s not just his own attacks that can benefit from Zola’s mad genius, however. He can leverage his engineering talents to enhance his allies as well. Hydra Engineering is a reactive power he can use whenever he or an allied character in Range 4 is attacking or defending. Zola can spend up to 3 Power, allowing the chosen character to reroll 1 die per Power spent during the Modify Dice step. Like his personal enhancements, this can have unpredictable results, though, and if the roll produces any failures the character gains the Bleed special condition.

Not that Zola needs to worry about bleeding. His artificial body protects him from such petty concerns as bleeding and poison, which is enough to make any scientist a little cocky. That’s probably why Zola is known for his Scientific Hubris, an innate ability that grants him 1 Power every time he rolls at least one critical!

That’s it for our look at the man in the box. Be sure to check back for yet another installment of From Panel to Play, the series where we give you your first look at how your favorite characters transition to the tabletop in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Pre-order your own copy of the

From Panel To Play: Malekith

CP93 Malekith

If you’re anything like today’s subject, you know that sometimes to achieve your goals, you need to pull on your boots, grab your cursed sword, and jump on a winged tiger to get things done.

This time on From Panel to Play, we’re talking about the leader of the dark elves and second only to Loki himself in the game of deception and disguise; it is the one and only Malekith!

Malekith was born the thirteenth son of a thirteenth son in Svartalfheim, the realm of the dark elves. While these many siblings struggled to survive in a realm at war, only the youngest lived to adulthood. After the deaths of his elder brothers, Maliketh was captured by Trolls, freed by a wizard, and instructed in the arcane, all before he was even grown. This brutal childhood left its mark on the young elf, and when he was finally strong enough, he slew everyone tied to his old life. Among the many prizes for his killing spree were the hounds of the Wild Hunt, a ferocious bog tiger mount, blackened scars on half his form, and the coveted title of King of the Dark Elves!

Malekith possesses strength, stamina, speed, and agility surpassing the average human, gleaned from training and sorcery combined. He is a master of the supernatural and the most potent wielder of magic among his people. Along with a silver tongue and the ability to alter his form, Malekith has manipulated gods and heroes across all the Nine Realms.

Sitting astride his massive bog tiger, the King of the Dark Elves enters the battlefield in a manner befitting his status. Coming in at 7 Threat, The Accursed has abilities that suit a mastermind and arcane powerhouse who regularly tangles with the gods of Asgard.

Wielding the Blade of Midnight, he can hew through almost anything the Nine Realms (or the secret Tenth) can throw at him. This basic Energy attack is Strength 7 and has the Pierce special rule, allowing it to cut down his foes. When foes surround him, the Accursed can unleash his mystic power in a roiling energy field to curdle his foes. Blood Boil is a Beam 4 mystic attack that can inflict the Poison condition on those it damages as the blood in their veins writhes.

When Malekith confronts his most fearsome foes, he can unleash his full power and fury as the self-appointed Butcher of Thors. This physical attack hits at a mighty Strength 10, places Malekith anywhere within Range 1 of his target, and has a chance to inflict the Bleed, Shock, Slow, and Stun conditions when it connects!

Someone with Malekith’s personality and history wants to lead, not follow. Thanks to his new Cabal Leadership, The Dark Council, he slots perfectly into that role. This alliance of beings from across the Realms benefits from the ambitious dark elf’s guidance and lets its members gain power, remove damage, and advance any time a member of the Cabal Dazes or KOs an enemy.

And Malekith is bound to score a few of those KOs himself. His bog tiger mount lets him rush into battle with a combination of the Flight innate superpower and the Ferocity power, which enables him to move and strike with the Blade of Midnight, possibly hurling his target away from the force of the impact. The Cloak of Shadows reactive superpower enhances his skill in battle even further, mystifying his opponents and letting him spend any amount of Power to turn failures in his attack, defense, or dodge rolls into Criticals! Last, as a conqueror who has rampaged across all the realms, Malekith gains 1 additional Power during the Power Up phase, and enemies cannot modify their attack dice when they’re targeting him!

That’s all for our first look at this tiger-riding menace from Svartalfheim. Be sure to check back for yet another installment of From Panel to Play, the series where we give you your first look at how your favorite characters transition to the tabletop in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Pre-order your own copy of the Malekith Character Pack at your local game store or through our webstore today.

Magneto and Toad

CP42 Magneto and Toad

Max Eisenhardt, the man who would become Magneto, faced unimaginable discrimination and evil during the Third Reich’s rise to power in World War II. He survived, thanks in part to the manifestation of his mutant power to control magnetic fields. Following the war, he resolved that such a fate would never befall mutantkind. An uncompromising freedom fighter for his fellow mutants, his extreme beliefs for mutant superiority drove a wedge between Magneto and his close friend, Professor Xavier. Magneto’s vision for mutantkind caused him to form the Brotherhood of Mutants, who fight for mutant supremacy.

Mortimer Toynbee, known as Toad, is a genetically flawed mutant. Visibly mutated since birth, he was abandoned by his parents to an orphanage where he was ostracized for his appearance. When Magneto discovered and recruited him, Toad embraced the mission to conquer the human race who had rejected and degraded him. Toad serves Magneto as an unquestioning lackey using his mutant abilities of enhanced jumping and prehensile tongue.
