SWP01 ASAJJ VENTRESS, Sith Assassin

Cruel and calculating, today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint character preview delivers you details about the deadly Dathomirian – Asajj Ventress™, Sith Assassin.

Trained in the ways of the dark side by Count Dooku™, Asajj Ventress is a fierce adversary and opponent to the Jedi Order. Aggressive and self-sure, she has stood toe-to-toe against the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi™ and Anakin Skywalker™ many times. Armed with twin red-bladed lightsabers, she unleashes her swift and hate-filled strikes against all who would oppose her and works towards her goals with singular purpose – “The Jedi shall fall.”

Asajj Ventress hits the battlefield fast and furious, capable of dishing out impressive melee attacks after closing the distance with her superb mobility-focused abilities. Asajj’s squad point value of 8, players who choose Asajj as their Primary Unit have a wide array of options when it comes to choosing a Secondary and Supporting Unit for her squad.

Dathomirian Dexterity allows Asajj to jump and is a rare ability that can be used twice in a single turn. Not only does this mean that she can clear a lot of ground and varying elevations in a single activation – it also makes her incredibly hard to pin down. Asajj can use this ability to great effect to jump and leave Engagement before making a move action and avoid being forced to dash in place of an advance. Even outside of her own activation, Asajj is almost impossible to tie up in melee on account of Slip Away. Using another allied character’s ranged attack to trigger this ability is a great way to move this Asajj into a more advantageous position and close the net on her chosen prey.

In combat, Asajj has two Stances to choose from as the situation requires. Form II Makashi is her more controlled and consistent style. Containing a shorter combat tree with results focused on movement effects and healing, it’s a great choice for moving foes off objectives and providing support to other embattled Units. Jar’Kai, on the other hand, boasts a long combat tree with various options for dealing heavy damage or piling debilitating conditions on the defender. While defending in this Stance, Asajj can change a strike result to a failure with enough defense expertise results in her roll. This couples nicely with the Riposte ability, dealing damage back at melee attackers unlucky enough to find a failure in their attack roll.

The hope with any attack is that Asajj will wound a Unit and trigger her identity, Sith Assassin. The power of this ability scales based on the type of Unit that Asajj defeated – offering healing, movement, and even the opportunity to refresh Force. Failing that, however, both of Asajj’s combat trees have an Active ability as an option. Choosing this option allows Asajj to use one of her Active abilities after the attack is resolved, without spending force. Asajj can use a lot of Force during her activation, and the free ability can help lighten that load by providing a free Force Push, which pushes an enemy a whopping range 3!

That closes out this first look at Asajj Ventress, Sith Assassin!
