If you’re anything like today’s subject, you know that sometimes to achieve your goals, you need to pull on your boots, grab your cursed sword, and jump on a winged tiger to get things done.
This time on From Panel to Play, we’re talking about the leader of the dark elves and second only to Loki himself in the game of deception and disguise; it is the one and only Malekith!
Malekith was born the thirteenth son of a thirteenth son in Svartalfheim, the realm of the dark elves. While these many siblings struggled to survive in a realm at war, only the youngest lived to adulthood. After the deaths of his elder brothers, Maliketh was captured by Trolls, freed by a wizard, and instructed in the arcane, all before he was even grown. This brutal childhood left its mark on the young elf, and when he was finally strong enough, he slew everyone tied to his old life. Among the many prizes for his killing spree were the hounds of the Wild Hunt, a ferocious bog tiger mount, blackened scars on half his form, and the coveted title of King of the Dark Elves!
Malekith possesses strength, stamina, speed, and agility surpassing the average human, gleaned from training and sorcery combined. He is a master of the supernatural and the most potent wielder of magic among his people. Along with a silver tongue and the ability to alter his form, Malekith has manipulated gods and heroes across all the Nine Realms.
Sitting astride his massive bog tiger, the King of the Dark Elves enters the battlefield in a manner befitting his status. Coming in at 7 Threat, The Accursed has abilities that suit a mastermind and arcane powerhouse who regularly tangles with the gods of Asgard.
Wielding the Blade of Midnight, he can hew through almost anything the Nine Realms (or the secret Tenth) can throw at him. This basic Energy attack is Strength 7 and has the Pierce special rule, allowing it to cut down his foes. When foes surround him, the Accursed can unleash his mystic power in a roiling energy field to curdle his foes. Blood Boil is a Beam 4 mystic attack that can inflict the Poison condition on those it damages as the blood in their veins writhes.
When Malekith confronts his most fearsome foes, he can unleash his full power and fury as the self-appointed Butcher of Thors. This physical attack hits at a mighty Strength 10, places Malekith anywhere within Range 1 of his target, and has a chance to inflict the Bleed, Shock, Slow, and Stun conditions when it connects!
Someone with Malekith’s personality and history wants to lead, not follow. Thanks to his new Cabal Leadership, The Dark Council, he slots perfectly into that role. This alliance of beings from across the Realms benefits from the ambitious dark elf’s guidance and lets its members gain power, remove damage, and advance any time a member of the Cabal Dazes or KOs an enemy.
And Malekith is bound to score a few of those KOs himself. His bog tiger mount lets him rush into battle with a combination of the Flight innate superpower and the Ferocity power, which enables him to move and strike with the Blade of Midnight, possibly hurling his target away from the force of the impact. The Cloak of Shadows reactive superpower enhances his skill in battle even further, mystifying his opponents and letting him spend any amount of Power to turn failures in his attack, defense, or dodge rolls into Criticals! Last, as a conqueror who has rampaged across all the realms, Malekith gains 1 additional Power during the Power Up phase, and enemies cannot modify their attack dice when they’re targeting him!
