Hobby Transmission – Building Dracula’s Castle – Part 1

10/14/2024

Hello Hobbyists!

Today we are going to go over some tips on building the Tomb of Dracula Terrain Set for Marvel Crisis Protocol. You should follow the instructions but these are additional tips that may help along the way.

For this, you will need your normal hobby tools such as clippers, glue, and a hobby knife. For more details on how to build miniatures, check out the first video in a three-part Beginner Series found here!

I clipped each part out and cleaned up any mold lines or injection spots that remained on the pieces. This will make the set cleaner for painting and make assembly much easier.

When we get to the stairs, be sure to start at the base of the stairs to ensure the build lines up. Do not glue the stairs onto the base as of yet! We want to make sure all the parts line up and we will glue at the end. Leaving the parts unglued to the base will give us the ability to make sure it all lines up and there is cure time in the walls to give some wiggle room.

Here I have the first landing all built and is setting into the channels properly. I let the stair set in the channel to make sure the landing will fit properly later.

Next assemble the cell section, but as before, do not glue it to the base. We want all the segments to cure before committing to the base. Get everything to line up and set into the channel.

The small bit of wall that connects the two parts can be tricky. Check the fit a few times to ensure understanding of the fit and connection.

Now the stairs are built and cured. Everything lines up as we made sure to keep it in the base plate so the walls are straight. Now you can glue the stairs to the base plate.

Fully build and then attach the top section of stairs and then attach the back wall segments to the stairs and base.

You may need to give it a bit of a shove on the part shown here to make sure it snaps into place.

You can finish off the build as shown in the instructions with the small set dressing items. I left a few off for painting, such as the vase and torch. In hindsight, the gold chest may have benefited from being left off as well.

I also added some texture to the castle floors. This is optional, but adds some nice contrast to the floor and makes it unique.

Remember, take your time and check the fit of all parts before adding glue and attach parts together (measure twice…cut once)

Now we are ready to prime and paint our Tomb of Dracula!
