Welcome to Atomic Mass Transmission where today we are very excited to do a worldwide reveal of the very first Marvel: Crisis Protocol Timeline champion award and explore a bit of the thought, theory, and work that went into to creating an award worthy of the challenge of Timeline events.
If you missed our original announcement about Timeline events you can go check it out here. Timeline events are AMG’s Premiere Tournament Event for Crisis Protocol players who are really looking to challenge their mastery and knowledge of the game at the highest level. Timeline events ask players not just to be able to navigate a restricted list of characters, Team Tactic Cards, and Crisis Cards when building a roster for the event, but to build three rosters from that list knowing that they will have to play each list an equal number of times throughout the event on their way to the finals.
Obviously, Timeline Events represent an incredible challenging game mode that goes well beyond the standard game experience. Knowing what we were asking of players who dared take on this challenge, we spent a lot of time internally discussing the appropriate award that would recognize the achievement of conquering a Timeline Event with knowledge, skill, and a good dose of game day luck.
We knew that a simple trophy wasn’t going to cut it. The whole idea behind Timeline Events is that each season represents a brand-new challenge to players, just as it represents an entirely new story centering around a cast of characters within the Marvel Universe. With this in mind, we fell upon the discussion of what if each trophy was unique? But even that didn’t feel impactful or celebratory enough. Timeline Events demanded an intense mastery of the game; the event is the ultimate expression of skill and knowledge on the tabletop. But Marvel: Crisis Protocol isn’t just a game played on a tabletop battlefield. It is a whole hobby that stretches well beyond—onto hobby desks, brushes, paint pots, and even water cups that get mistaken for coffee cups. While mastering the game is a part of the celebration that is Marvel: Crisis Protocol, it wouldn’t exist without the presence of the hobby and how it brings the game to life in a way that is unique to tabletop miniatures games.
What better way to represent the unique challenge of Timeline Events than by having an award that reflects what makes Crisis Protocol so much more than just a game. As such, each AMG official Timeline Championship Awards will be a wholly unique miniature diorama, created and painted by one of the best miniatures painters in the world. Each award will tell a one-of-a-kind story drawn from the inspiration of the Timeline Season, just as each Timeline Champion’s journey to the top will be one-of-a-kind. And, what better choice for the very first Timeline Event than for the championship award to be created and painted by our prolific Crisis Protocol Studio Painter Brendan Roy, whose work has been fundamental in shaping the success of the game since day one.
Working with our intrepid Creative Director Dallas Kemp, Brendan has created a one-of-a-kind piece of miniature art that represents fearlessness in the face of overwhelming odds. A fitting tribute to those who dare to take on the first ever Timeline Event at this year’s Adepticon. While this piece will represent the award for the first Timeline Event, Dallas is already hard at work with our selected painter on the award for our second Timeline Event which will be held at UK Games Expo this summer.
